CALLED TO BE A WITNESS
Every believer has a testimony. You may not preach from a pulpit or travel to distant nations, yet your life can still announce the goodness, truth, and saving power of God. Witnessing begins with knowing whom we believe, remembering what He has done, and becoming willing to speak when the Lord opens a door.
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me...”
— Acts 1:8 KJV
Jesus Christ—Yahawashi—did not call His followers to hide their faith. He promised power so they could bear witness. That power is not permission to become proud, argumentative, or harsh. It is strength to speak truth with courage, demonstrate mercy, and remain faithful even when the message is unpopular.
A WITNESS TELLS WHAT IS TRUE
In a courtroom, a witness does not invent a story. A witness tells what has been seen, heard, and known. Christian witnessing follows the same principle. We share what Scripture says about sin, repentance, salvation, obedience, judgment, grace, and everlasting life. We also explain how God has worked in our own lives.
Your testimony does not need dramatic details to be powerful. Perhaps the Lord carried you through grief, delivered you from fear, restored your family, taught you to honor the Sabbath, or opened your eyes to commandments you had overlooked. Speak honestly. Give God the glory. Avoid exaggeration, because truth does not need decoration.
The foundation of every testimony must remain the Word of God. Personal experiences can encourage people, but Scripture establishes doctrine. When our feelings change, the Word remains sure. A faithful witness continually directs attention away from self and toward Christ.
KNOW THE GOSPEL YOU ARE SHARING
The gospel is more than a promise that life will become easy. It announces that humanity has sinned, that God is holy, and that we need redemption. Jesus lived without sin, gave His life, rose from the dead, and calls people to repent, believe, and follow Him.
Grace does not erase the call to obedience. Salvation cannot be purchased by human works, yet genuine faith produces a changed life. The person who receives mercy should desire holiness, justice, compassion, and faithfulness. When we share the gospel, we must present both God’s kindness and His authority.
Study foundational passages so you can explain the message clearly. Read the surrounding chapters, compare Scripture with Scripture, and pray for understanding. We do not need to know every answer before speaking, but we should be responsible students who refuse to misrepresent God’s Word.
COURAGE DOES NOT MEAN HARSHNESS
Some believers remain silent because they fear rejection. Others become so forceful that listeners feel attacked rather than invited to consider truth. Biblical courage stands between these errors. It refuses shame while maintaining gentleness.
Ask questions and listen. Learn what the person actually believes instead of answering an argument they never made. Speak plainly without mocking their background. If correction is necessary, give it with humility, remembering how patiently God has dealt with you.
People may reject the message, but our conduct should not give them a reason to reject our character. Anger, insults, and pride can close a door that patience might have kept open. The gospel is already challenging; we do not need to add unnecessary offense.
LET YOUR LIFE SUPPORT YOUR WORDS
A powerful message can be weakened by dishonest conduct. The witness who speaks about love while practicing cruelty, or teaches obedience while refusing correction, creates confusion. None of us is perfect, yet believers should be quick to repent and make matters right.
At home, at work, online, and in private, ask whether your decisions agree with the truth you share publicly. Integrity gives weight to testimony. Patience during pressure, honesty with money, kindness toward the overlooked, and faithfulness to promises can cause others to ask what makes your life different.
Good works do not replace the gospel, but they can prepare the ground for it. When people experience sincere compassion, they may become willing to hear about the God who taught us to love.
WITNESSING IN EVERYDAY CONVERSATIONS
Witnessing often happens in ordinary moments. A coworker mentions fear. A relative is grieving. A neighbor needs help. A friend asks why you observe the seventh-day Sabbath. These moments are opportunities to answer naturally and respectfully.
Begin with a simple sentence: “May I share a Scripture that encouraged me?” or “Would you like me to pray with you?” Permission shows respect. If the answer is no, remain kind. Your patient response may itself become a testimony.
Keep a few KJV passages ready in your heart. Practice explaining the gospel in clear language. Share one truth at a time instead of overwhelming someone with every subject you have studied. Spiritual growth is a journey, and the Lord knows how to lead a sincere seeker.
DIGITAL WITNESSING WITH WISDOM
Social media allows truth to reach people across the world, but it also rewards conflict, haste, and sensational claims. Before posting, ask whether the content is accurate, necessary, and presented in a way that honors Christ. Do not spread a report merely because it supports your opinion.
Use digital platforms to share Scripture, testimonies, teachings, prayer, and practical encouragement. Answer sincere questions. Avoid endless arguments with people who only want attention. Time spent fighting in comment sections can often be better used creating something helpful for quiet readers who are searching for truth.
Remember that a public post becomes part of your witness. The same account that shares Bible verses should not be filled with gossip, humiliation, and uncontrolled anger. Let your online presence show consistency.
WHEN YOU FEEL UNQUALIFIED
Many people hesitate because they remember past failures. The enemy may say, “Who are you to speak?” The answer is that we are not claiming to be the Savior. We are pointing to the Savior who forgives, corrects, and transforms sinners.
Your past can become evidence of mercy when it is shared with wisdom. Do not glorify sin or expose details that harm others. Emphasize what God taught you and how His truth changed your direction. A humble testimony gives hope to someone who believes they are beyond restoration.
Continue growing. Receive correction. Study diligently. The strongest witnesses are not those who pretend to have arrived, but those who walk faithfully in the light God has given them.
A SIMPLE WITNESSING PLAN
Pray each morning for one opportunity to encourage someone. Choose one KJV verse to memorize each week. Write a short version of your testimony that can be shared in two minutes. Keep a longer version for conversations where a person wants to know more.
Identify three people who need prayer and place their names in your journal. Ask God for wisdom, timing, and genuine love. Do not treat them as projects. Build real relationships and be willing to serve them even before they agree with you.
After each conversation, pray again. Trust the Lord with the result. Our responsibility is faithfulness; conviction and spiritual growth belong to God.
